Location: Lucile Bluford Public Library, Northeast Public Library and Westport Public Library. Other locations may be added.

Provide group fitness instruction, monitors, educates participants on fitness and safety, and maintains a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for class participants.


  • Teaches scheduled classes, beginning and ending on time; provides adequate warm-up, exercises, stretching, and cool down.

  • Instructs participants on effective workout methods; explains proper techniques, demonstrates exercises; identifies different muscle groups, and teaches appropriate methods to strengthen specific muscles.

  • Prepares appropriate equipment, music for each class.

  • Assists participants, answers questions, and maintains a positive exercise experience for class participants.

  • Ensures that safety standards are met, and that department and facility policies are adhered to.

  • Performs related duties as required.



  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Must possess current Red Cross CPR certification.

  • Certified Instructor (ACE, AFAA) or equivalent.

  • Seeking certification (may require a different NickiFit career path)

  • Additional specialty/certifications preferred.


  • Working knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology and training principles.

  • Knowledge of group fitness teaching strategies and the incorporation of music, tempo, cue technique, and rhythm.

  • Choreography and music skills.

  • Ability to be professional and motivate class participants.

  • Ability to cooperate and work well with other staff members.

  • Has passion for community building because these are community based programs.

  • Ability to adapt to various work environments.

  • Ability to tailor exercise class for various fitness levels i.e naivest, intermediate, and advanced.

  • Ability to work on or off camera.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, sit and talk or hear. The employee must have a high degree of energy, be physically fit, and have the endurance to complete the workout.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works with various types of fitness equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office, and loud when in the designated area for group classes. Work environment not traditional (i.e carpeted floors).


This position pays $17.50 - $20.00/hour with a commitment of 1.5 hours per class.
