Group Exercise Instructor

ABOUT THE POSITION

Location: Lucile Bluford Public Library, Waldo Public Library, and Irene H. Ruiz Public Library. Adding new locations in 2024.
 

GENERAL PURPOSE
Provide group fitness instruction, monitor and educate participants on fitness and safety, and maintain a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for class participants.


DUTIES

  • Arrive 15 minutes early for all classes to prepare the room and greet clients.

  • Teaches scheduled classes, beginning and ending on time; provides adequate warm-up, exercises, stretching, and cool down.

  • Instructs participants on effective workout methods; explains proper techniques; demonstrates exercises; identifies different muscle groups; and teaches appropriate methods to strengthen specific muscles.

  • Prepares appropriate equipment and music for each class.

  • Assists participants, answers questions, and maintains a positive exercise experience for class participants.

  • Ensures that safety standards are met and that department and facility policies are adhered to.

  • Performs related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Must be 18 years of age.

  • Certified Instructor (ACSM, ACE, NASM, AFAA, ISSA, etc.) Additional advanced certifications are a plus.​

  • AED/CPR certification.

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Seeking certification (may require a different NickiFit career path)

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Working knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology, and training principles.

  • Knowledge of group fitness teaching strategies and the incorporation of music, tempo, cue technique, and rhythm.

  • Choreography and music skills.

  • Ability to be professional and motivate class participants.

  • Ability to cooperate and work well with other staff members.

  • Has a passion for community building because these are community-based programs.

  • Ability to adapt to various work environments.

  • Ability to tailor exercise classes for various fitness levels, i.e., most naive, intermediate, and advanced.

  • Ability to work on or off camera.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

 

The employee must have high energy, be physically fit, and have the endurance to complete the workout.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works with various types of fitness equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office and loud when in the designated area for group classes. The work environment is unique (i.e., low carpeted floors).

COMPENSATION

This position pays $19.00 - $35.50/hour with a commitment of 1.5 hours per class—up to a $200 hiring bonus based on work location.

We want to see you in action! You have total creative freedom so long as most of the video demonstrates your ability to teach a class or workout video. The submission can be an existing video as long as it was recorded within one year of your application date.
